It is almost comical to listen to people talk about what farmers/ranchers should do. At 75 I have heard these pleas from the production agriculture community for most of my life. Just like the southern border, lots of talk but no action. The price received for agriculture commodities historically has been at the cost of production. Nearly everyone I know depends of some sort of off farm income for living expenses and they all owe the bank. Being in debt limits the ability to change business models. You simply keep sending money to the various input suppliers and hope for a better year which you get occasionally. If you are lucky you get money from oil and gas, timber, water or something else like that.

The monopolies must be broken up, a clear plan for a new business model developed and the American public must bear the cost of whatever transition is required. On the other hand they can eventually stand in food lines or eat Gates insect derived protein and lab grown meat. The American people, in general, have no idea what a danger this poses for them.

Remember in the 1970’s the secretary of agriculture basically told farmers to get big or go out of business. Now look where we are. Plus the push for turning corn into ethanol has distorted the market.
