They are literally using *our* money to destroy us. Unfortunately, many people are cheering censorship. After all, someone got their feelers hurt or got offended right? It's still amazing to me that in a day where we have the ability to block, turn off, mute, change the channel, delete, etc anything that we don't want to see or hear we have people who would rather a tyrannical government make them feel better by banning or cancelling speech they don't like. People who support that cannot fathom that eventually the speech they like themselves will probably end up becoming "illegal" as well. *All* speech must be protected.
All of this rests on a very carefully and well-crafted narrative that attracts religious zealots who see themselves saving the world, saving the unknowing public..."we're saving you and your family making it safe" and "although you think you hate us, someday you'll see that we were really doing this for your safety" So resting on a bedrock of solid commitment this attracts certain kinds of money and certain kinds of people who want to do this work. If the foundation were ever shaken, the people committed to it would go on for years....even if the science said it was wrong, even if most people agreed it was wrong, these folks would be so invested they could not stop or abandon the narrative...very similar to climate change...these folks have a religious belief they are saving us and the planet. So these foundational narratives are the strength of the movement. So were there ever times in history where a population instantly or quickly abandoned its beliefs? Was there ever a conversion of an entire population? Is it even possible to unwind this?
Coming from the holistic world, I've been well aware of the purchasing of influence by pharma over politicians/agencies. I didn't know same applied to media till covid. But behind all this, I see a lot of $ changing hands and/or promise of lucrative prestigious future positions. The greed for money and lust for power/position/advancement in these people overrules care and responsibility to humanity. More and more, I am forced to term this as EVIL!

Of course censorship is the beginning of totalitarianism; it, along with its cousin propaganda, create the conditions for mass formation, wherein perception can be easily molded by "the news" and by directives from authorities, without bothersome misinformation to interfere.
This "mass formation" doesn't originate with the people. It's installed or induced via the producers of The Truman Show within which we're living.
The first foray to install censorship is to convince people that censorship is needed to protect our democracy, and I have friends who consume mainstream news that hold that strong opinion and become angry when challenged.
The army being prepared to fight against those who wish to expose the truth is the army of citizens willing and eager to censor us.
If we want change we need to be like Meryl and be relentless in this fight...the powers that be want to clamp down on us so we have no chance of changing the tide. They know we are waking up and will eventually know the truth about their nefarious plans for us....hopefully this is going to be the "Apocalypse or Great Revealing" where we have a chance to live somewhat harmoniously on earth. I hope we can create heaven on earth because I'm sick of this HELL they've created for many (Palestine is just the tip of the iceberg as far as where they want to go with this evil).
