Maybe if farms create an ecosystem with trees and streams the critters will balance. In grade school Mr Gutnik had a room dedicated to a complete ecosystem. The only food need to inject was a rodent every once and awhile. Yes, this system had snakes. This ecosystem made national news. I helped maintain it one year. Sadly it sprung a leak and ruined a very expensive grand piano on the floor below. That was the end of that ecosystem. I grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee. We had Apple and Cherry tree and strawberries, chives and tomatoes. Funny how that stuff didn’t need pesticides. The dog loved them though at the peak of freshness.

I was working as the research librarian in the environmental health division ( definitely insert sarcasm at that division name ) of a large chemical company in St. Louis, MO, at the time not yet split into Solutia and a certain familiar agrochemical, bio tech, corn genetic modifying company that wished to rule the world with GMO seeds and a certain herbicide. I actually worked for what then would become the Solutia side, however there was someone on the other side ( it was an internal corporate war which resulted ultimately in the split, shortly after I left the company to move with my then husband to NC where he was doing a residency at Fort Bragg ). I remember going to the EPA with the corporate lawyers ( they seemed to have unlimited funds and expense accounts at their disposal). I witnessed "negations" with regulators ( actually checks written ) which resulted in a certain chemical being removed from the regulatory list. That sealed it for me, I now knew that regulation was for sale. I was shocked at the time. The lawyers celebrated the fact that on this particular occasion they had gotten what they were sent to accomplish for a relatively cheap price. It was time to go to the bar and celebrate. I declined for many reasons, but primarily because I was disgusted.

While watching a Mutual of Omaha's wild kingdom episode, I learned they’re using lasers to scare the Ravens away from eating the baby tortoises.
What’s first came to mind was, how a simple laser beam pointed at a flock of Ravens can help save these newly hatched tortoises.
