The NYT gave Congressman Tom Massie (R-Kentucky) 3 pages in last Sunday's paper
And they could not find anything bad to say. Which is why he is my favorite Member of Congress. A Jeffersonian.
The self-proclaimed “greenest member” of Congress is a Republican from rural Kentucky. He lives in an off-the-grid home he built himself, using timbers cut and rock quarried from his family cattle farm. He pipes in water from a nearby pond, and powers the home with solar panels and a battery from a wrecked Tesla that he salvaged and retrofitted.
But while he lives on, and even makes part of his living from, the land, very few people would call him an environmentalist. The car he drives back and forth from Washington has a license plate advertising his support for coal. He likes to lean on his experience as a robotics engineer to argue against precipitously switching over to renewable energy, claiming that rapid changes could crash America’s power grids. And he once mocked John Kerry, who has a degree in political science, in a congressional hearing on climate threats: “I think it’s somewhat appropriate that someone with a pseudoscience degree,” he said, “is here pushing pseudoscience.”
It is a very long article so I won’t post the rest, but you can see the guy is smart, sharp, and he isn’t afraid of anyone. Note: he is simply honest about the fact that the electricity to fill up his Tesla comes primarily from coal in Kentucky; in your neighborhood it might come from nuclear, natural gas, or oil. Most people think the Tesla is “clean” but that electricity has to come from somewhere.
Support his PRIME Act that would allow local farmers to sell meat locally without a lot of federal rigmarole that has put many out of business. He also is drafting a similar Act for selling fresh milk locally. And he wants to end the Department of Education. He was a speaker 2 weeks ago at the Attack on Food and Agriculture symposium I hosted.

He's the only rep who has gotten 100 in the Freedom Index. Look up your reps as some are so atrociously low like around 40. https://thefreedomindex.org/report/fi117-3/
Watched Off The Grid (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18_yXt1s2yc) recently. Was very impressed with how he lives. Definitely not your typical Congress Critter.
