Oh my f***ing God. How can the Republicans who seem to support Making America Healthy Again support this AWFUL bill that will allow the poisoning of America?

And even more sad is the fact that it seems that Trump has muted RFK, Jr. We all KNOW where Bobby stands on pesticides and Round-up (he was a part of a court judgment that successfully sued Monsanto for $289 million.

WHERE is the MAGA and MAHA movement on THIS vitally important issue?

Bought and paid for politicians that are too afraid to do the right thing. I would have supported a cap on the settlements, but not liability shield. Um... we see how well that has worked for the "vaccine" companies. The death, maiming, destruction. Heaven help us.

Trump signed the EO below after RFK won that case. Susie Wiles likely has a lot of pull and there sure seems a lot of protection for the companies the lobbyist firm Mercury Llc represents where she was just prior to her chief of staff position.

“Trump has publicly aligned himself with pesticide-seed companies to promote the cultivation of GMO crops.”

i think its disgusting. All TRump cares about is $$$.

Dana Ullman, MPH, CCH's avatar

THAT is absolutely right! And if the Republicans continue to support this bill which absolves pesticide companies from any liability for their use, they are NOT advocates for a "healthy America." And Trump should veteo this bill if it gets to his desk...or he clearly is taking big money from you-know-who!

They're kinda busy - in the back rooms counting all their anonymous funding contributions and various other off the books perks

I do not trust Trump and never will. I never listen to what he says. I watch what he does. Both sides, Republican AND Democrats are corrupt. I give little credence to either. Most all of them, regardless of party, are gofers for those with the AGENDA.

Dana Ullman, MPH, CCH's avatar

I fully agree! However, the only silver lining here is that Trump has appointed great people to head the DHHS, FDA, CDC, and NIH. And yes, they will be forced sometimes to do some not-so-good things, but under Biden, ALL of Biden's appointments were Big Pharma shillls which created enormously bad policies!

Bassehound's avatar

Oh my “great people”. Egads.

Jamie's avatar

Right? Marty Makary is the one who could call off the harmful jabs and doesnt. Instead they want to give it to the most vulnerable people. smdh

carla's avatar

not good if Trump doesn't listen to them, and signes EO revolking the case law. NO, he is getting $$ from Big Pharma and Big Chemical. EVIL>

Yeah...that happens...but at least Big Pharma is being challenged.

FDA just gave Modern's new combo shot a pass: flu and C19 for all of us! RFK is being trampled period by Trump and his Chief of Staff Pharma lobbysist, Susie Wiles. FIRE HER>

Our representative government has been absent a very long long long time.

Thank you for your dilligence Dr. Nass.

You mean IG Farbin Bayer? I’m shocked! IG Farbin Bayer and Monsanto’s one big beautiful company for eugenist.

Janene's avatar

Oh I’m furious about this. I called Mike Simpson’s office (Idaho). But why should he care about lowly people. He gets more money from Simplot and Bayer. Another win for big Ag. We now have bill boards in Idaho talking about “standing up for Roundup”. It’s a travesty. We talk about lowering sugar and improving “science” and then slip this bomb into our soup. What a disaster.

You are right. Why would they vote against something that is likely in their portfolios? This is a conflict of interest. If the own or have owned shares in these corps any time recently, they should not be able to vote on this.

To bad lobbying is okay the way it is used and abused by congress and the senate. There should be limits on what can be donated, anything over that amount or benefits worth more than that amount should be prosecutable.

Barbara Charis's avatar

Lobbyists are dangerous to our system. I think that lobbyists should be banned. Moneyed interests should not be permitted to influence the votes of Congress.

In other words, it's bribery and corruption. Just like a banana republic....

For several years Chief of staff Susie Wiles was affiliated with the biggest lobbying firms, Mercury LLC and Ballard Partners. Wiles maintained her lobbying work up to her chief of staff job. Right after Wiles left Ballard for Mercury, Bondi joined Ballard. Its a big club.

For sure. I was very leery of this Wiley character as soon as it was announced. It appears we were right. She's in bed with all of the crap we were hoping would be addressed.

Well the Democrats wouldn’t have voted for the bill even if that section was missing. They will not vote for anything put out by Trump or Republicans, so I don’t believe for a second they care. That said, I am extremely angry this bill includes absolution and protection for Bayer when what should occur is the executives going to jail for poisoning us and the planet.

That we will never see. Republicans should be ashamed they place the profits of a corporation over our health. I hope you all got paid enough to assuage whatever conscience you have left.

SpirituFarmer2030's avatar

Sorry, but was the Bayer bill part of the Big Ugly Bill--or was it a separate, stand-alone bill? I am certainly horrified that the Republicans have this captured-behavior when it comes to this issue and Big Pharma as well. It truly is a Uni-Party and we are not served by either side. Does Sen Ron Johnson also vote this way? Rand Paul? Thomas Massie? Is there any hope? I am so grateful for your support for our farmers, Meryl. We certainly can't trust our Reps.

Meryl Nass's avatar

Bayer was not in the Big Bill. This was a markup for a final appropriations bill in the HOuse.
