I'd rather buy direct from the farmer. I do not trust large corporations.

Bassehound's avatar

Most people do not have the option to buy direct from farmers.

Troll Hunter's avatar

You do if you go to farmers' markets. They get a booth at the market and sell directly to the public.

Bassehound's avatar

Even at farmer’s markets no beef for the beef eaters and for a short period one gal who had limited chicken. That was at a busy farmers market north of Los Angeles in a big ag county.

In area desert areas choices for farmers markets are slimmer and even if in a safe to leave a package cannot have stuff shipped in summer due to heat unless home when package arrives so it does not sit in the 115 degree heat of a common summer day. No just going direct does not work for all even if one can afford the higher costs. Reality is what it is. On the good side Sprout’s does try to buy more local produce, but that varies on regions.

I’ve had beef shipped to New England a fee times from Nebraska.

Bassehound's avatar

Not all can afford that also many have to be home for delivery so packages don’t get stolen or it sits out in the heat in desert locations.

The guy who does Yanasa TV on youtube has been talking about some of this for a long time:

It's really disheartening to see the corruption sinking its teeth into the current administration at the national level, and both states & counties going insane at the local level :,-(

I wish The so called "resistants " versus players in the cabal that we are knee deep in, would STOP the justification and placating. We need your Help , not the people who are bringing the nation down: be they scientists virologists, physicians politicians, hospital administrators, nutritionists, Journalist, anyone who is not telling the Truth. If the TRUTH will set us , FREE we have to work harder at exposing them and holding them to the line.

Sounds great the W.H are to look into Meatpacking up there, however I think you’ve been given a sop, thrown a bone, a bit of hope, that there’ll be a change, my advice, don’t hold your breath… the way this administration kow tows to corporates and Wall Street pigs will fly I think before anything substantive by way of change occurs, a tinker around the edges perhaps, to appease and mollify, otherwise it’ll be business as usual, the issue is individuals compete big money, if it were me I’d organise and set up a Citizens PAC, get donations made into it and no longer directly to individual political whores over there, then play the big boys and gals at their own game, putting conditions on donations made to a Pres Candidate, Senators, Congressman and woman, making it clear exactly what’s needed in return just as the corporates and Wall Street other vested interests have been doing, I mean wouldn’t you rather donate to a centralised Citizens Best Interests PAC and then demand Medicare for all, Changes in Ag policy, Energy etc.. ought not be an issue, I know where I’d send my hard earned if such existed, seriously between the electorate over there and with sufficient support raising serious folding ought not be an issue if people changed their donations habits… I believe it’s worth serious consideration, a shot, what’s to lose except what little remains of your republic that’s been stolen from under your noses… one things for sure, it’ll worry the shite out of them, when they see direct donations drying up and not being made as per expectations only for them to take your money and then give you the middle index… time to change it… just saying

I trust NOTHING Trump does is beneficial to the commoner corp, tech billionaires, the trump empire YES, commoners NO. His track record shows who is first, not we the plebs. 2O2O was a huge sign and the perps wanted more and worse, here we are. Good stuff about the political peeps, money would be better used by citizen firsts group.

Some stores are putting security webbing and alarms on packages of meat. But Trump says that the cost of a store-packaged Thanksgiving dinner is down 25% from last year (no, not really, less food, more generics) so he does not want to hear about unaffordable food because he is the greatest president ever. Meanwhile, even hamburger is getting too expensive. Maybe Billy cut a deal to sell us bags of frozen bugs.

Dr Meryl, I would appreciate your take on the following:

Inside the WHO’s Pandemic Treaty: The hidden pathogen agreement no one’s talking about

Reggie Littlejohn warns that the upcoming Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing (PABS) annex could incentivize the hunt for deadly viruses, expand lab risks, and centralize global health power under the World Health Organization.

Meryl. Excellent article on this very important topic. I agree. The multinational packers must be broken up for the good of this country and food security. If not the packer cartel will continue their anticompetitive monopolistic practices that break ranchers and gouge consumers. This packer monopoly is the single reason for our shortage of cattle in this country where we have the smallest national cow herd on record. They will continue to make ranching so unprofitable that the next generation of potential ranchers will continue to leave rural America for 9-5 jobs with paid leave and retirement benefits. This as you know will exacerbate the food crisis we are seeing unfold before our very eyes.

I think the "support small processors" might be the most important goal. Some local cattle ranchers here tried to form a coop and process and sell their own beef. The USDA stepped in and stopped it. I don't have the details really, but I know from a friend that they tried, and were stopped by the government, the USDA. So now they have to sell their cattle to the large processors for almost nothing.

la chevalerie vit's avatar

I wonder how many small operations are still out there like https://www.familyfarmbeefbox.com/

Curtis's avatar

I think there are a lot, but it's hard for them to get the word out, and hard for people to change their habits; and it's not cheap...

la chevalerie vit's avatar

True on all counts. Our local Shaws grocer only carries USDA Choice, no longer Prime. Some expensive organic offerngs in small portions which don’t even taste good, so, suspect. A pound of regular 80/20 hamburger cooked in the skillet stinks to high heaven and isnpriced way higher than it is worth. What a difference clean beef makes!

First lab Beyond & Impossible, now Believe “chicken” approved.

What is Cell-Cultured Chicken?

Cell-cultured chicken is synthesized (or manufactured) from animal cell culture technology using a combination of biotechnology, tissue engineering, molecular biology, and synthetic processes. Cell- cultured meats are grown in a lab from cells taken from animals or their fertilized eggs. The cultivated cells are mixed with other ingredients (fats, sugars, amino acids, and possibly growth factors and hormones) and grown in labs in stainless-steel tanks. In approximately three weeks, the cells mature, multiply and form sheets of product that can be molded into cutlets or nuggets or be shredded.”

Would not be surprised. Have not gone down that rabbit hole yet, on my list. He was/is suppose to be invested in both impossible and beyond. If not gates, one or some of the creatures.
