W have twenty wild chickens living in my neighborhood and hanging out in my yard. They look healthy happy if not a little hungry. I better not see any one in my yard trying to hurt them.
Omg! I saw small town newspaper in Butte County California big headlines”BIRD FLU FOUND in backyard chickens “! And news of a new health officer installed! The poor chickens looked scared. They are probably going to kill them. I want to know is the CDC telling small county officials to go PCR test small backyard chicken coops? And who do they think they are?
Additionally, have chickens ever had bird flu before in our existence? Can’t they just get over it?
Great question. Under what aurhority does the state demand the chickens be killed, and who kills and disposes of them in a non-commercial backyard flock?
It looks as if the USG does not want any bird flu survivors hanging or flying around, for unclear purposes.
Unlike milk cows, you can re-produce a flock of chickens in just a few weeks, so despite culling of over 120 million chickens in the US these past couple of years, there are no significant shortages. Though egg prices are up.
Hopefully, with FDA and USDA under new leadership, this will end soon. But who knows?
