mind numbing. just in the past few days, I have noticed a lot more people wearing masks. a few months ago, it was almost zero. the price of a dozen eggs went up by almost $2, literally over night and a sign on the shelf says 'limit 6'. they think people are gonna start panic buying? at nearly $5 a dozen? must be this year's toilet paper. I won't be participating. just like I haven't all along.
I was looking at treats I buy for our dog. In the normal days, they cost $9.98 per bag. Then, 6 months ago they went up to $11.98 so I'd wait until they had a great sale to buy as much as I could. Now, they're up to $14.98. I never had my jaw drop at the price of anything before. I was totally shocked. These small companies are going to go out of business because their prices keep going up. It happened to coconut yogurt we buy. It went up $3 and now I can't even find the brand on the shelf anymore. It's awful, just awful.
oh man, yeah I get it totally. the smaller makers of nitche products are getting the squeeze on their raw materials/ingredients. I think the goal is to put them all out of business so that we only have the big box stores and crappy processed food.
screw that. I think we have to band together and support the smaller businesses as much as we can, if we can. I don't have pets but have seen mom & pop makers/vendors of quality pet treats at local fests & craft fairs. my elderly neighbor makes homemade dog treats for her church bizarre. its doable. shop local :)
My friend has an app on her phone that allows you to take a picture of a grocery store receipt and gain points to use for something else, (like starbucks, or something else, I'm not sure what). The thing is, the more junk food you buy the more points you can accumulate. I would call that a pro junk food app. She only got about 25 points for my $200 Sprouts receipt but she got 600 points from a receipt at a fast food joint. The healthcare tentacles are everywhere.
It'd be interesting if someone would put up an app that would allow people to randomly share images of their receipts so that participants would get to claim benefits like what's described, but the attributions to individuals would be completely wrong. Kind of like exchanging your loyalty cards with friends whenever you are out for drinks. Anyone truly trying to save serious money with apps like that wouldn't go for it, but I think it's a mug's game to begin with. If this caught on, the MoFos would change the game, of course, which would require "us" to make countervailing changes in response.
The appeal seems similar to Anarchist Calisthenics. Too much thinking involved? For some, I'm sure.
