Reformist Pezeskhian won the first round of the presidential race with 42.5 percent of the vote, followed by hardliner Jalili who got 38.6 percent.
Both candidates now head to a run-off as neither managed to get 50 percent plus one vote needed for an outright victory.
At 40 percent, the turnout was the lowest ever recorded since the formation of the Islamic republic in 1979.
Friday’s election took place to pick a successor to President Ebrahim Raisi who died in a helicopter crash earlier this year.

Hi all, I'm going to dispel some illusions here. I'm French and I have long been interested in history, politics, and especially what happens behind the scenes.
The National Front (FN) is the ancestor of the National Rally (RN), and this party is at the orders of the real power and has always been used to serve as a foil. Currently the ambient narrative is that nationalist/populist parties are against the hegemony of the New World Order (officially, embodied by the West and led by the USA), and therefore would be the only ones able to thwart the plans ruling elites. This is exactly the narrative the elites want us to believe.
However, that is false.
They are all part of the same circles and this is just a setup. The goal is to polarize opinions (if you are not "with" us, you are "against" us), maintain a certain consensus of "democracy" which in reality masks the real objectives of power, and of course, always “divide and rule”.
If wars outside countries allow certain things, internal wars allow others.
Maintaining control also involves controlling the opposition. This is exactly the role of nationalist/populist parties (right or left).
This is all just a fool's game where we the respective peoples are the prey.

Writing from France, I note my specific personal satisfaction that the serial liar called Olivier Veran, the minister of "health" during the scamdemic who forced facemasks on everyone and ordered that no one be allowed into a cafe or restaurant without proof of injection, got just 33% in his constituency, behind the "Popular Front" candidate on 40% while Le Pen's RN candidate got 18%. So that is one seat going for a run-off next Sunday that will hopefully see the ousting of this thug-in-a-necktie who used to be a physician. I somehow doubt he will go back to clinical (mal)practice.
