I agree their economy has improved but it's still largely driven by exports of resources. They've got the GDP (flawed as that measure is) of the Netherlands. Subtract the resource exports and all that's produced exclusively for the State, and their economy (in terms of uncoerced products and services) is still miniscule. If the 'west' gets it's way and makes UKR a decade-long bloodbath, Russia will inevitably be f*cked.

Beware Jeffrey Sacks as Trojan Horse. I was disappointed that RFK,Jr. could apparently be seduced by his “tell all” truth-telling about the lab leak from Wuhan. Sacks is part of the Council on Foreign Relations Old Guard (that includes Kissinger, Obama) now speaking tolerably well, and sometimes well, of Russia’s reasons for entering Ukraine. They are for selfish reasons trying to keep the world from being blown to bits by the neocon hawks, but his globalist solution is to implement the Bill Gates GERM program and have the W.H.O. take control of all global pandemics and health. Regarding economic theory, the Chicago school was good on most things, but they were buttlickers of the Central Bank regime.

Agreed. Sachs pretended that his hands were clean because he had expected the transition to become a robust market economy. For the gruesome details I recommend David Kotz & Fred Weir "Revolution From Above: The Demise of the Soviet System" paperback. People were starving and were forced to sell their certificates; auctions for former state assets were held in private in essence by invitation only. How could a well-intentioned chap like Sachs even have imagined such possibilities?

Then he calls those "undeniable economic achievements".
Those are not 'economic achievements'. The Soviet Union was a system of slavery, and the only economy it had was "na levo", which was the "under the table" economy and the Kolkhoz where people were permitted to sell some of the food they'd grown themselves.
Kotz unironically also means 'to puke'.

Those are not 'economic achievements' >> These are the fruits of the economic achievements of a flawed and non-optimal but still adequate physical economy that was strong enough to support vibrant cultural and athletic achievements. The improved version of this physical economy is what is now powering Russia against the imperial and thoroughly predatory West.

What 'improved version' of 'physical economy' do you imagine exists here? They now have prices, firms, markets. Communism does not. Communism has commands and quotas. Communism/Socialism can not have rational allocation of resources because they reject the freedom that allows prices to form. I agree their economy has improved but it's still largely driven by exports of resources. They've got the GDP (flawed as that measure is) of the Netherlands. Subtract the resource exports and all that's produced exclusively for the State, and their economy (in terms of uncoerced products and services) is still miniscule. If the 'west' gets it's way and makes UKR a decade-long bloodbath, Russia will inevitably be f*cked.
And how'd we get here? The 'west' (aka the Nuland Klan) pushed weapons and bio-warfare labs right up to Russia's border, which Russia (not just Putin) repeatedly said was intolerable. It's entirely up to us to stop this UKR farce of a war, and I don't see the momentum building to achieve that.
Anyway. It's been Nuland's gang running the show in the 'west' and for us, it'll be slavery until armageddon.

Thank you so much for this Meryl. I was an economist- now retired- and confess I had been taken in by Sachs’ re branding recently, although I have not read his book.
I believe you are correct in your very shrewd analysis, and am impressed by your sharp discernment and perspicacity.
Incidentally, I am also convinced that one of RFKJR’s close associates- one of the most frequently featured in the CHD newsletters- is actually a plant, whose role is to mislead and discredit, above all deflecting attention from evidence relating to the real sources of the most recent famous illness.

As a German, I have lived on the drift ice floe of world politics since the beginning of my life and have experienced just about everything from bomb wars, refugee flight, loss of identity, economic success and collapse of the inner world view. In Germany we know a fairy tale of the hare and the hedgehog, who organize a race on the field, in which the hare almost rushes to death and at the goal the hedgehog always tells him "I am already there" (hedgehog and his wife have cheated the hare). Exactly in this way the great politics is made in our time by the Khazarian world leaders. They are always thesis and antithesis at the same time. Will we be able to experience a world in which the white civilized peoples of Europe can determine their lives independently, without the constant fear of genocidal efforts by those in power? Jeffrey Sachs seems to have changed sides for the same reason, to be already there as the second hedgehog where the simple-minded and gullible hare runs. Sachs is just positioning himself as antithesis. It is up to us to see through the mendacious game. Immanuel Kant urged us more than 250 years ago "Have courage to use your mind!" Let's do it.
