He spent about 7 yrs in the Ecuadoran Embassy in London until the US forced a change of presidency (a coup?) to ensure someone who was in the pocket of the US. He then denied Assange the sanctuary with promise for passage to Ecuador. Then Assange was physically manhandled out of the embassy so the police could pick him up and imprison him for the past 3+ yrs. The court case in the UK was a total Kangaroo Court with US controlling the process with charges of treason against Assange. The one US witness was a known perjurer giving false testimony. This case was online and was a travesty. Assange was kept in a cage so he could not hear the case nor hear his lawyer. The physical conditions were as undemocratic as you can imagine. While the Right will berate Biden for not releasing Assange, Trump also had the opportunity and would not do this as his position was to attack the media--all of it no matter how independent. Obama would not bring charges as he knew they would be illegal but Trump and Biden, 2 sides of the same coin refused to deal with any sense of ethics or legality as the goal is to create legal precedence to intimidate and control the press and our freedom of speech which you have experienced in your medical fight.
Today, Assange's wife and father have been waging an international struggle to get him freed.
I should have noted more clearly that the US charged Assange with treason, a bogus claim. They say he stole government secure documents and did harm to the US. However, Assange not only printed only what came to him unsolicited, but also vetted all material to ensure no security issues would be breached. He also vetted them with the NY Times and London Guardian which both printed some of the material but they are not charged showing the duplicity of the case with its effort to use Assange as a weapon against freedom of speech and the press. Remember, Assange is Australian and never worked in the US. But he did embarrass the ruling elite by revealing their inhumane and illegal behavior.

I agree, much of the wording in this document doesn't really sound legitimate. I mean, "if you don't do the thing I told you, I will tell the committee and see what they say otherwise just call me maybe (probably personal cell) " .. giggle!

Yes, this is what it's about. One cannot contradict or criticize the state (i.e., the government authorities.) This is how the state controls expression and hence thought, and this is the road to tyranny.
Freedom of speech has historically been about rooting out corrupt government ministers since unless subjects were free to contradict and condemn these ministers, their misdeeds would be hidden from public scrutiny and be harmful to king and country.
We've been swindled into believing that tyranny has another origin which lies within the stupidity of the people themselves and their plodding mechanistic thinking. This isn't it at all. The origin of tyranny, of totalitarianism even, is censorship.
Arguments for tolerance of differing views fall on the deaf ears of those who would be tyrants.
