We do NOT NEED studies showing harm--we have enough of those, we know we are being poisoned. We need MONEY to transition to organic and regenerative farms NOW. WTF!!!!

Dianne Stoess's avatar

Right. Duh. It's a no brainer.

John's avatar

You are correct and may I point out that this is the type of thing that happens when people trust a very flawed system?

Jan's avatar

I agree John. I've been trying to get the word out on glyphosate/Round Up for ten years. A close family member was also a part of the class-action lawsuit that Kennedy helped win. All that discovery should be front page news, until farming is overhauled.

Bonnie Potter's avatar

What is this research funding ? We already know what glyphosate does. How difficult would it be to spend that money to help transition farmers to regenerative farming practices.

Meryl Nass's avatar

exactly. The Trumpian Wiles philosphy when they realize they truly have gone too far. Deflect. Lie. And make a promise that is meaningless.

Fred St Clair's avatar

This view is one ALL of the oligarchs have. They won't need so many peasants once the kinks are worked out of AI. They want us dead.

Bassehound's avatar

The Roy Cohn method. Funny how Susie Wiles escaped disclosing her “former” clients.

Meryl Nass's avatar

And I heard months ago NIH was going to be doing more research on it to finally end the debates resulting from Monsanto's fake research. So is this new money or old, allotted money?

Bassehound's avatar

Awesome, we the taxpayer get stuck with the bill to “study” the problem big corps cause, profit from and escape liability.

John's avatar

Corporations are formed to socialize risk while privatizing profits, and big government exists to do the bidding of big money.

Investigations take time - kicking the can down the road.

Sandra Knauf's avatar

Exactly! I want to know, too: who is this billion dollars going to? We do not need more research on this subject. And why don't they write legislation to phase it out?

Fred St Clair's avatar

Why? For the same reason we can't vote our way out of this: they don't want us around anymore. Poison in our food is a good start for them.

Tonee norman's avatar

Oh,that wasn’t the start….

Sandra Knauf's avatar

All evidence seems to be pointing that way. It cannot be taken off the market immediately as that would cause market collapse and famine at this point, but to not having an immediate phasing out . . . there's no excuse for that.

Fred St Clair's avatar

They are just stalling. They don't care about or for us. There are too many poors for the oligarchs, so it is time to thin the heard.

John's avatar

"They don't care about or for us."

I find it fascinating that anyone would imagine that they do, yet apparently vast swaths of the population believe that's the case.

'Bill Gates is continuing the work of Monsanto', Vandana Shiva tells FRANCE 24 10:15 min

¨Our guest is Vandana Shiva, a world-famous environmental activist from India. Her latest book is entitled "One Earth, One Humanity vs. the 1%". She tell us about more her opposition to big multinationals such as Monsanto for their nefarious influence on agriculture. But Shiva also singles out billionaires like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg for criticism. "When Bill Gates pours money into Africa for feeding the poor in Africa and preventing famine, he’s pushing the failed Green Revolution, he’s pushing chemicals, pushing GMOs, pushing patterns", she tells FRANCE 24's Marc Perelman.

Their research documents potential health and safety problems of drinking milk treated with the synthetic hormone, but threatened with legal action from Monsanto, Fox wants the negative effects played down. The court eventually throws out Akre's whistle blower lawsuit after deciding that the media is allowed to lie.¨

Glyphosate interferes with absorption of minerals, in other words, Glyphosate interferes with methylation and may persist for a long time in soil as well as contaminating water sources and harming aquatic ecosystems . . and drinking water.

LW's avatar

It chelates the minerals from the soil insuring the food grown with it is worthless.

An additional $1B of grift. We already know it's dangerous to life. Put that $1B towards helping farmer's heal the soil. We're all so sick of the bullshit. And as for the Means sibs? CIA operatives groomed to distract and deflect. Ugh.

I appreciate how this monumental issue is being highlighted for discussion. Thank you for covering it Meryl. Our future depends on our collective voice.

Corrin Strong's avatar

As a former grain farmer, I understand that the problem is not just as simple as banning glyphosates altogether and that the liability issue is also complex as I discussed in a recent Substack:

I think the 1 billion dollar study is code for big farma to go ahead and keep spraying! Nothing exists until a study proves it right?

Thank you, Meryl. You are truly a hero to so many of us. I wish you were the president. I could just see you going in and ransacking the bleep state criminals!

The blame needs to be placed squarely on Trump who hired both Susie Wiles and Pam Bondi and is a completely ignorant, scientific numbskull. We can bet that Trump is being paid, in one form or another, by both the Big Ag industries and pharmaceutical industries.

Fred St Clair's avatar

Give me a break. The whole system is broken beyond belief, and Trump and company just happen to "be in charge" now. Stop pushing the left vs right agenda: we are fighting and losing handily a class war. Do not keep perpetuating it. The oligarchs want us to blame our neighbor. Wake up sport.

Edmond Pare's avatar

What makes you believe I'm "pushing the left vs right agenda"? I said nothing about Dumbocraps, who I abhor. Go bother someone else with your ignorant bs. Btw...I'm an independent.

Dianne Stoess's avatar

Thank you for keeping us up on this Dr. Nass. Weaning commercial farmers off of glyphosate will take who knows how long. In the meantime, toxic food is better than no food. Mass starvation would result. At the same time, the government also needs to begin weaning commercial food industries off their (our) funding and directing more funds toward organic/regenerative farming. It will also help for more citizens to donate to the orgs that support organic/regenerative farmers. I donate to a couple. I realize this won't happen overnight, but the process must begin and begin now so that at least our children and all future generations will have the opportunity to eat healthy foods and enjoy longer lifespans.

Susan's avatar

The choice isn't toxic food better than no food. When freedom of speech is heard and not silenced, the choice is stated by Joe Salatan, regenerative farmer, who has went to the restaurants to sign up clients much like a CSA or Community supported Agriculture. He's telling everybody to do the same as he is doing as the slices of the pie of business are wide open right now given the lack of certain foods. If people did this, there would be no mass starvation. People can even grow food on city lots as long as they have sufficient sun on the garden they water. Glysophate is toxic food. It is part of the chemical compromising Agent Orange that caused returning Viet Nam Vets to have babies with large amounts of their skulls missing. Most of these babies died before they became adults due to brain injuries. Who made Agent Orange? Monsanto (Bill Gates and Rockerfeller, owners). Who makes glyphosate? (Monsanto) Who has been poisoning the food supply since the 1980s with unlabeled Genetically Engineered plant food? Monsanto. What company has been voted repeatedly year-after-year as the most hated/most evil/most Satanic company in the USA since the 1990s? Monsanto. The American people do not want anything made by Monsanto or by Bill Gates. There is much less awareness that the copartner is Rockefeller, which is widely known as the major funder behind the Population Explosion books. We all get clean food as soon as we insist on clean food, and we do that by growing our own food in our yards, on our balconies, where-ever we can grow our food.

Dianne Stoess's avatar

Yes! I totally agree. It's up to us to take responsibility for our own health. Find other ways to access healthy foods. There are also a lot of nutritious wild foods (and medicine) growing all around us although they must be harvested from areas not treated for "weeds". There's food and medicine growing in our own backyards! Think chickweed, for example. Dandelion greens. Violets. Just a few.

George's avatar

My guess is Bayer is playing the old extortion game of gimme this or you don't get that. But then again if optimum crop yield does require Roundup it's time to find a way to bypass it. Monsanto/Bayer might be the antichrist!

JH's avatar

“My response is, we would grow them even better without the tied-up minerals and GMO drag. How do they think we grew corn before glyphosate?

“By getting rid of just some of the residual glyphosate in the soil, we had a 11-15 bushel/acre yield increase in corn last year without using glyphosate. Crop rotation, a little tillage, etc. work wonders, especially on glyphosate resistant weeds.” Dr. Don Huber
