The rhetoric around it is absolutely appalling. If climate change is urgent, we cannot afford to take measures that fail to have any noticeable impact on climate change. Taxing cow burps is absolutely futile.
And the ignorant in society don't even know that before humans were even here, there were billions of livestock roaming all over the place. In the Western US it was herds of thousands upon thousands of bison (buffalo), deer, elk, etc. As we modernized, these natural herds were replaced with domesticated herds... The same goes for people who think we are on the hottest planet in our history. Um... In places like North Dakota, Montana, etc there are giant fossils of Palm Tree fronds, etc. In other words... it used to be tropical. "The Science" won't tell anyone any of these things and the average joe on the street doesn't have a clue and/or doesn't care because their food comes from "the grocery store". Soon, their food will come from a lab and their life will be: Living in a tiny apartment. Eating "approved" food dished out by the government (most of it coming from labs), paying for a ride anywhere they want to go (when they are allowed to leave their apartment), and taking their mandated medical interventions to heal all of the problems that come from not being able to eat a natural diet or get outside and do things. Most of the people I know don't see this coming and they don't care. Personally, I'm sick of the willful ignorance of the public. Like I always say, " We deserve what we are going to get". I will *not * comply with this insanity, even if I have to sneak into the woods and live off of pine cones and berries until I die an earlier death. I've had it with all of this.

Excretions from livestock is not a major cause of global warming, if it were then surely the estimated 180m buffalo that roamed the US plains two+ hundred years ago would have been just as bad.
That said, there's a distinct difference between excretions from livestock that can roam freely versus ones locked in sheds year round and fed junk, sometimes literal junk food (candy per articles a dozen years ago on farms feeding cows cheap expired candy because it contained corn syrup - it's got electrolytes, sorry, corn in it).
It won't be the giant CAFO farms that are run out of business, it'll just be the small family farms.

I think Whitney Webb, an investigative journalist, has written extensively on her blog "Unlimited Hangout" about how these taxes can be linked to the creation of carbon credits, the new "out of thin air" currency traditionally created by the FED. These credits will eventually be sold, securitized and traded on stock exchanges or qualify as collateral to secure loans. This collateral is as ethereal as the flatus that comes out of the cows back end. It's an old cliche but it is true: Follow the money.
But if the globalists get their way, these carbon credits will be part of the CBDC (central bank digital currency) used to capture all the people's freedoms as far as what we can eat, how much energy we can use, where and whether we can travel, save etc. Of course none of this will apply to the Globalists
