I "de-banked" myself 10 years ago after the banking crisis finally caught up to my cabinet business. Life has never been so sweet. If I can't afford it, I don't buy it. Bought a piece of land, bought the material for a gorgeous house, built it without government permission (sue me) all by myself. An homage to F. L. Wright.

Life is so generous!

I live in an area where houses date back to the 1850's, and ALL of them are still standing, without a single permit ever pulled to build any of them. Building and Safety is just a department for people too stupid or lazy to do it themselves. Minimum wage rubber stampers who have professionals do all the calc's and math.

You want to a sturdy home? Build it with people for whom building is a solemn prospect. Joyous and wild, but solemn in the promise of building standards that will speak through the ages.
