Hamas’ charter promised the destruction of Israel, and got voted on overwhelmingly on that promise in 2007.

It sounds to me like Gaza is a large, open air prison camp. Some of the prisoners decided to revolt, do a jail break, and seize some hostages for negotiating purposes. Israel, in response, has decided to destroy the infrastructure of the prison and kill large numbers of the inmate population. It seems like this prison is a failure.

No military force can assemble in 10 minutes. A border that had been successful in keeping out Hamas for decades may not have been deemed a security threat, especially in a remote, sparsely populated area. No border is impenetrable by a determined, organized attack.
Israeli intelligence knew about Hamas plans to attack a full year beforehand. In the days before October 7th, soldiers on the Gaza border repeatedly warned their superiors about activities they were seeing that could be preparation for an attack. Instead, soldiers were moved to the West Bank to protect settlers who were attacking Palestinians, and the music festival was moved closer to the Gaza border. If there had been a plan to facilitate the Hamas attack, it would have done exactly what the IDF did. Even after the attacks started, it was hours before reinforcements were sent. There needs to be an investigation into what happened and why. As things stand right now, the theory that the Israelis let the attack go ahead on purpose is plausible. Motive: to engage in ethnic cleansing in Gaza, to remove the Palestinian population. There are members of Netanyahu's cabinet who have openly advocated for that.

No military force can assemble in 10 minutes. A border that had been successful in keeping out Hamas for decades may not have been deemed a security threat, especially in a remote, sparsely populated area. No border is impenetrable by a determined, organized attack.
Israeli intelligence knew about Hamas plans to attack a full year beforehand. In the days before October 7th, soldiers on the Gaza border repeatedly warned their superiors about activities they were seeing that could be preparation for an attack. Instead, soldiers were moved to the West Bank to protect settlers who were attacking Palestinians, and the music festival was moved closer to the Gaza border. If there had been a plan to facilitate the Hamas attack, it would have done exactly what the IDF did. Even after the attacks started, it was hours before reinforcements were sent. There needs to be an investigation into what happened and why. As things stand right now, the theory that the Israelis let the attack go ahead on purpose is plausible. Motive: to engage in ethnic cleansing in Gaza, to remove the Palestinian population. There are members of Netanyahu's cabinet who have openly advocated for that.
The US, it is claimed, knew about the attempt to fly planes into buildings in 2001.
I believe intelligence did know in both cases. But it's quite another thing to anticipate the exact time and place an event is to take place. Enemies do their very best to conceal communications using couriers in such a way no intelligence can penetrate the shroud.

Let's not forget that Israel's Northern and near-Gaza Southern populations have been turned into refugees by the Israeli Gov. (about 130,000 people forced to leave their homes)... Agenda 2030 in action.
