I think the only way to get rid of this current system is to get money out of politics. People have to have millions just to get elected or re-elected and now running for president is a $2 billion racket. I think a lot of it is money laundering.
The worst of that problem would have been avoided had they left the powers that the constitution reserved to the States TO THE States. That way, corruption could only bring down one or more States at a time rather than the whole country. But even then, the rich get richer all the time and eventually have enough wealth to bribe enough politicians to ensure that the cycle of collapsing empires continues throughout history.
